The recent Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) expedition embarked on an adventure that tested their mettle against nature's elements. Led by Miss Provan, the group faced chilly temperatures and rugged terrain during their journey.
Despite the biting cold, the expedition began with enthusiasm as students trekked around Pendle and ascended Pendle Hill on day one. Cooking their own meals and setting up tents, they embraced the outdoor experience wholeheartedly. Nightfall brought biting temperatures , but the resilience of the students shone through as they adapted to the frosty conditions.
Day two saw the adventurers honing their map reading skills as they navigated through the wilderness. Despite the challenges, they pressed on, demonstrating determination and teamwork throughout the journey.
However, the expedition was cut short due to the severe night time temperatures, plunging to -1°C, necessitating an early return on Saturday. Despite this setback, the students made the most of their time in the great outdoors, learning valuable lessons about perseverance and adaptability.
As the adventurers return from their chilly escapade, they carry with them memories of camaraderie and resilience, underscoring the transformative power of outdoor exploration and experiential learning. Well done every one!
Looking ahead, the Bronze DofE practice expedition is scheduled for May 11th. Bronze-level students will tackle their own route, culminating in an overnight camping experience at Rivington on the 18th and 19th of May. Best of luck to all involved, we look forward to hearing about your adventures!
